I didn’t know how to feel, so I learned how to touch
with Katie Sarra and Caffyn Jesse
an online group, with opportunities for in-person intensives at the Sea School of Embodiment, England, and Caffyn’s studio on Salt Spring Island
This training is designed to foster understanding of how and why we can address sexual trauma through body-based exercises and experiences. We offer participants basic knowledge, tools and techniques required to have a trauma-informed practice. We will learn through practice with fun exercises for healing, empowerment, assessment, scar tissue healing and expanded pleasure. Bring your actual case studies for discussion.
Trauma has lasting effects because it is embodied and embedded in the nervous system. Body-based exercises and experiences can help people unwind trauma from their cells. Expanding nervous system capacity for excited arousal and relaxed enjoyment, neural exercises help people build competencies in self-regulation, connection and joy. Assessment practices allow practitioners to evaluate what clients are ready for, and to work in each person’s particular learning zone. “Emotional First Aid” practices help us get clients grounded and reoriented in the face of trauma triggers. Scar tissue from trauma can be addressed, physically and emotionally. Participants will learn about how boundaries, ethics and professional practice create a container for healing, and how that container can become destabilized.
This is a professional development workshop for body-based sexual healers including somatic sex educators, Certified Sexological Bodyworkers, and others. It will also be useful for clinical counsellors and trauma therapists as well as massage therapists who are interested in learning how body-based exercises and experiences are vital for helping clients who are addressing sexual trauma and neglect.
